When not dressed for battle, Strants wears rich and fashionable clothes of the highest quality and style, favoring the colors red and brown.
In battle he still favors the color, though he may opt for more camouflaged clothing, always over a studded leather armor.
In either case, he always carries an elaborate rapier, its basket hilt a work of art adorned with rubies in the shape of a phoenix; the legendary Phoenix Blade.
-It’s not uncommon for powerful adventurers to become famous for their exploits; the public hungry for news of their affairs. Strants Phoenix is no exception.
House Phoenix is the most important and powerful noble house in the Hegemony of Dorianor after the Elang’Draeon royal family itself. This is particularly true because they run the Phoenix Guild, the organization responsible for managing the Hegemony’s finances and trade, with Grand Duke Leomund Phoenix at the head of the family and the guild. Strants is Leomund’s only son and heir apparent to the House’s fortunes. Strants however is currently more interested in… other pursuits.
Two hundred years ago, with the Great Rebellion in full swing, Kaenus’ Black Rose Alliance required a fleet to pass the Areon Ocean and reach the Iron Empire’s heart in Athanor. This fleet was provided by the infamous pirate lady, Raede Phoenix (pronounced ‘Red’ or ‘Raid,’ depending on who you ask). She became a member of the Black Thorns.
After the war was won, Raede was made a noble of the Hegemony of Dorianor and proved to be as cunning in managing trade as she was in managing piracy. Despite her pirate background, she and her descendants have been fiercely loyal to the Hegemony and Kaenus Elang’Draeon in particular (there is some belief that Raede’s only son, was actually fathered by Kaenus; the reality is that no one—not even Kaenus—is sure of the child’s father’s identity, but the Hegemon does treat the Phoenixes as his own family).
Strants, the latest in line of Raede’s descendants joined the military Force Academy at his father’s insistence. Leomund had hoped that the Academy would instill discipline in his son to make him ready to take up his responsibilities. His plan backfired; Strants fell too enamored with the life of a soldier. Strants felt that House Phoenix had degenerated into a bunch of courtiers, unworthy of the legendary Phoenix name. To that end, he successfully joined Shadow Force and became a highly capable member of the special forces unit.
Strants’ fame (or infamy) does hinder him to a certain degree in the pursuit of his military duty. As a particularly famous member of Shadow Force he is unable to go undercover for long or perform acts of espionage. He sometimes disguises himself on operations, but never risks such ruses for long. Thus, he is usually relegated to direct action operations.
He also has the reputation of a womanizer—which is exaggerated, but not by much. When not deployed on a mission, he is often found adventuring with Clio Justfire on her Errant Quest.
Strants, along with Clio and Gilbert Justfire, was one of the heroes who stopped Jeremiah Addus’ attempted coup d’état.

Ritual Casting. Strants has a Ritual Book and can cast wizard spells as rituals. The maximum level of rituals he can cast is 6th.
Spellcasting. Strants is an 8th level spellcaster. His spellcasting ability is Intelligence (spell save DC 15, +7 to hit with spell attacks). Strants knows and can cast the following wizard spells:
Cantrips: fire bolt, prestidigitation
1st level (4 slots): burning hands, shield, charm person
2nd level (2 slots): Melf’s acid arrow, scorching ray, shatter
Assassinate. During his first turn, Strants has advantage on attack rolls against any creature that hasn’t taken a turn. Any hit Strants scores against a surprised creature is a critical hit.
Sneak Attack (1/turn). Strants deals an extra 7 (2d6) damage when he hits a target with a weapon attack and has advantage on the attack roll, or when the target is within 5 feet of an ally of Strants that isn’t incapacitated and Strants doesn’t have disadvantage on the attack roll.
Phoenix Blade Duelist. Strants deals an extra 7 (2d6) fire damage whenever he hits a target with his rapier. His rapier attacks also deal an extra 2 points of piercing damage (both included in the attacks below). In addition, whenever he rolls a 20 on an attack roll with his Rapier, Strants deals an additional 7 (2d6) damage.
Magic Weapon Bond. Strants’ rapier is magical. He cannot be disarmed, and can summon the weapon in his hand with a bonus action if it is on the same plane of existence.
Second Wind. Strants can use a bonus action to regain 13 (1d10 + 8) hit points. He must take a short or long rest to use this ability again.
Cunning Action. Strants can use a bonus action to dash, disengage, or hide.
Multiattack Strants can make two weapon attacks.
Rapier. Melee Weapon Attack: +11 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target.
Hit: 13 (1d8 + 9) piercing damage plus 7 (2d6) fire damage.
War Magic. Strants casts a cantrip and makes one weapon attack.
Action Surge (1/day). Strants can take two actions.
Parry. Strants adds 4 to his AC against one melee attack that would hit him. To do so, Strants must see the attacker and be wielding his rapier.
